8. What is the memory offering?  Is it expandable?
The XP Series comes with 32 MB SDRAM and 64MB NAND memory.  There is a user accessible mini-SD slot for expansion (compatible with up to 2GB mini-SD card).  To preserve the sealing of the unit against the elements, the XP Series’ mini-SD slot is accessible only from the inside of the battery well. back to the top

9. What are the barcode scanning capabilities?

The barcode imager engine in all XP20 and XP30 devices has the ability to read and decode both 1D and 2D barcodes.  1D scanning capability is a standard feature on all XP Series configurations and all devices can easily be field-upgraded to scan 2D barcodes.  Janam’s 2D Scan Unlock (2D-XP-1) can be purchased as an upgrade to enable 2D scanning at any time.

13. The XP Series is a rugged PDA.  What does that mean?

14. What is the drop spec?

The XP Series withstands multiple 4ft drops on all sides to concrete.  back to the top

15. What does “sealed to IP54 standards” mean?
International protection (“IP”) rating refers to the level of protection that an electronic device provides against dust and water.  The XP Series’ IP54 rating means that the unit has been tested by an independent, third-party laboratory and certified to be “dust protected” and “water splashing against the enclosure from any direction has no harmful effect”.  Consumer devices or devices described as “durable” are not subjected to such testing. back to the top

MOST COMMON QUESTIONS

1. How do I buy products from Janam?
End-users may buy Janam products from value-added resellers (VARs) and solution providers that sell the XP Series along with powerful software applications that run on the device.  Many of these resellers can be found at Find a Reseller on the Janam web site.  Janam resellers typically purchase Janam products through distributors.  Please visit Find a Distributor to find the distributor for your area of the world.

2. What’s my discount off list price?
Janam offers its resellers and distributors healthy discounts off list pricing that enable them to position Janam’s solutions nicely against legacy rugged scanning Palm computers.  Resellers are encouraged to complete the Partner Certification Form which results in a pricing designation that best fits the business model of the reselling partner.  Please be sure to complete the form, click submit and receive confirmation that the form has been submitted.

3. Will Janam’s products support existing Palm applications?

Yes.  The XP Series was designed to support easy migration of applications from previous versions of Palm operating system, particularly applications that incorporate barcode scanning, and requires little or no code modification.

4. Will there be a platform upgrade?
At this point, Janam does not intend to move beyond version 5.4.9 of the Palm operating system.  It is a very stable platform that offers the flexibility and ease of use that Palm mobile applications demand.  Enterprise customers prefer platform stability that drives maximum value from their technology investment, instead of the typical six-month churn associated with mass consumer devices.

7.
Is the barcode reader on the XP20 and XP30 compatible with software developed for the SPT 1800?
Yes.  The XP20 and XP30 utilizes an imager engine from HHP that has passed HHP’s rigorous Adaptus™ testing and validation.  This is the same imager that was selected by the United States Postal Service after extensive lab and field testing.  The HHP imager in the XP Series offers state-of-the art barcode scanning and can be field-upgraded to scan 2D barcodes as well.

4. How do I upgrade from 1D scanning to 2D scanning?

All of Janam’s mobile computers can be upgraded in the field to read both 1D and 2D barcodes with a simple firmware upgrade (Part Number 2D-XP-1).  With each upgrade, a key code is provided that unlocks 2D scanning capability on the device.  To purchase an upgrade for any XP20 or XP30 device, simply contact your reseller or distributor.  You will need to provide the product serial number so the appropriate 5-digit key code sequence can be assigned.

To access the product serial number, please follow these steps:

a.   From the Home screen, tap the Menu button and select Info.
b.   The Info screen will appear.  Press the Version button.  From the screen that appears, copy the ID (example 006206A090E-J).   When purchasing the upgrade, provide this 12-digit serial number.  The 5-digit key code for enabling 2D scanning on the device will be sent to you.

Upon receipt of your 5-digit key code, please follow these steps to enable 2D scanning (sample screens for each step appear on the following page).

a.   Go to the Preferences screen and select Settings.
b.   Tap the Unlock 2D Scan button.
c.   Enter your 5-digit key code.
d.   A Successful Unlock notification will appear.
e.   Select the Bar Code Scanner Demo tab at the top of the screen.
f.    Tap the Menu button to open Symbology Config.  You can then select Enable All to enable every type of barcode or manually select the barcodes of your choice.
g.   Press OK.

Note:   The unlock code will be maintained in the unit’s system after a soft reset but will need to be re-entered after a hard reset.  We suggest you keep a record of your 5-digit key code in case you need to re-enter it after a hard reset.
